About the office Our past, present and future

The Nursing and Midwifery Development Office was established in March 2006 following a review of nursing services in 2005 as one of the recommendations of the “Nursing Care Improvement Project”. The Nursing and Midwifery Office contributes to the attainment of the DOHMS overall strategic direction through promoting the national and international profile of nurses and midwives and the value of their work, as well as setting clear direction for the overall development and enhancement of nursing and midwifery practice in Dubai.
The Nursing and Midwifery Development Office works to ensure effective and sustained development of nursing and midwifery services planning and policy framework. The framework identifies and leads strategic issues relating to nursing and midwifery practice development, regulation, standards, workforce planning, credentialing, education and training, research and development. The office develops and maintains both nationally and internationally professional relationships and networks with relevant professional bodies and the health industry as a means to identify and establish innovative practice.
The Nursing and Midwifery Development Office offers internship program for staff members to provide a bank of well-prepared nurses who are effective practice leaders and managers.
