Child Health Services is an integral part of the health care services of Primary Health Care which functions in the scope of promotion of Health & Prevention of Diseases in children of families in the community. The health services it provides, has greatly developed and advanced towards a more organized and comprehensive care which is made accessible to cater for the individual needs the f members of the community it serves.
Services
- Regular assessment/monitoring of the growth and development of the child with the active participation of the parents.
- Initial and follow-up physical examination for screening or early detection and treatment of childhood diseases and nutritional deficiencies from birth.
- Implementation and administration of immunization according to the standardized schedule of the Department of Health & Medical Services.
- Facilitate the referral of the child to other DOHMS health care facilities for Prompt and effective medical and nursing care.
- Preventive & therapeutic dental care.
- Further diagnosis/assessment and treatment of the children’s chronic disabilities and those with special needs such as physical disorders, sensory disorders, speech disorders and behavioural problems.
- Appropriate information and intervention of the health educator on the identified needs of client.
- Dietary services for supplementary advices.
- Social services.
- Plan, organize and implement health education programs to parents on: -
- Growth and developmental milestones.
- Healthy and safe environment for a normal child’s growth and development and prevention of home accidents.
- Hygienic practices and care of the child at home.
- Prevention and management of infant and childhood diarrhoea.
- First Aid Care for a child who suddenly becomes ill or injured.
- Dental care.
- Health supervision and socialization to improve pre-school growth and development.
- Upgrading parental competence with special reference to the prominent role of the mother in child rearing and due consideration of local socio-cultural patterns.
- Maintaining a systematic, informative and adequate recording and reports.
- Planning, organizing and implementing a comprehensive In-service Education Programme for Nursing Personnel towards skill development in performing the procedures in Child Health Services.
- Implementation of cold chain for vaccines
