Delivering health from the start
  • 1943
    Health Industry saw the light in Dubai in Al Ras Area. It started with a small center that provided Medical Consultation and Medications to the Community.
  • 1951
    Al Maktoum Hospital first stage was constructed under auspices of His Highness late Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum.
  • 1952-1973
    Al Maktoum Hospital was developed by His Highness Late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed, from 12 Bed Hospital to 157 Bed Hospital.
  • 1972
    Department of Health and Medical Services was established by the Ruler of Dubai under the Presidency of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Industry. Rashid Hospital opens, offering 454 beds in Bur Dubai.
  • 1975
    Seven community clinics are opened around Dubai in order to reach out to the community.
  • 1978
    Central Services Complex, which accommodates the Stores, Laundry, CSSD and the Engineering divisions, is established. The Central Services Complex provides all the essentials to Dubai health facilities, handling all types of supplies, drugs and equipment.
  • 1979
    The Department of Health and Medical Services moves into its brand-new headquarters.
  • 1983
    A highly modern Dubai Hospital opens in Deira, offering specialized services and 625 beds.
  • 1986
    Al Wasl Hospital opens, offering a 367-bed maternity and pediatric facility.
  • 1988 - 1995
    Six state-of-the-art community health centers open in various areas of Dubai.
  • 1998
    The concept of primary health care is established and adopted in line with the philosophy of the World Health Organization’s motto “Health for All by the Year 2000”. Hence, increasing the number of centers and health clinics to around twenty, distributed all over the emirate.
